FINISHING WELL IN LIFE (3)

In January 2014, we looked at Part (1) of a series titled, ‘Finishing Well in Life’.  Essentially, it highlighted among others, what it means to finish well in life, and the fact that God is needed to help us do so. You can read it on my website, by clicking the following link: http://mindofchrist.org.uk/finishing-well-in-life-1/.

Then, in February 2014, we looked at part (2) of the series, which highlighted some of the conditions that we have to satisfy before we can be adjudged to have finished well in life.  You can also read this write-up on my website, by clicking the following link: http://mindofchrist.org.uk/finishing-well-in-life-2/.

Today, I shall take part (3), the final part, of the series.  And it will focus on some of the things that we have to do in order to finish well in life.

Being saved or born again, is the starting point of finishing well in life. And without achieving this feat, we cannot attain heaven, the Kingdom of God (John 3:3).  However, on its own, it is not enough to see us through successfully!  Without doubt, we need to do more; we need to nurture our salvation thoroughly as well (Philippians 2:12).

So, how then can I nurture my salvation, you may now wish to ask? Well, among others, you must:

1.  Find, and attend a living Church.

You may be able to find the list of living churches in your area online.  After choosing one of them, please introduce yourself to the pastor in charge, so that he or she can assist you to grow in the Lord.  The church of your choice, must encourage fellowshipping with other Christians (Hebrews 10:25), reading the bible (Joshua 1:8), praising God (Psalms 67:5), etc.

2.  Look for suitable mentors to guide you.

One or two mentors, preferably in your church, should be enough.  But, they must be people of good character, and they must be willing to support you, pray for/with you, and keep you on the right track in all ways (Hebrews 10:24).

3.  Set time aside for God every day.

This is usually called the ‘quiet time’, and it can last from a few minutes, to many hours; depending on your ability.  You should have yours at a time convenient to you, and your family.  And during this time, you should read your bible (Joshua 1:8), praise God (Psalm 100:4), pray to Him (Mark 1:35), and listen to Him (Isaiah 58:9a).

4.  Be baptised with water.

To be baptised with water, means to be immersed in it.  It is a major way by which you can associate yourself with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ (Romans 6:3-4).  It also shows deference to God.

5.  Be baptised in the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is hugely important to our existence (John 16:7, John 16:8-11, 13, John 14:26), and you need Him to do well, and finish well in life. Please seek the assistance of your pastor to be baptized in Him as soon as possible.

6.  Be vigilant.

Please do not be complacent after becoming born again for the devil is nearby to destroy you (1 Peter 5:8).  Hence, be vigilant at all times to stay afloat, and finish well in life (1 Corinthians 10:12).

Friend, if you prayerfully follow all the steps I highlighted above, I believe you will finish well in life, and attain Heaven at the end of the day.  May the good Lord keep you, and equip you with all you need to attain these milestones, in Jesus name.  Amen.

End of series!

Jesus is Lord!
