Today, I am going to address people who believe God is uninterested in, or incapable of, meeting their expectations. I want to assure them that reverse is the case. He is both interested in and capable of, meeting their expectations. He is capable of surpassing them as well! Please, permit me here, to reinforce my submission with some biblical accounts.

Hannah (1 Samuel 1), was the first wife of a man called Elkanah. His second wife was Peninnah! While Peninnah had children, Hannah had none, because she was barren, and Peninnah made it a habit to provoke her sore, day after day.

Every year, Hannah went to Shiloh to pray to God on her situation. As she was praying one day, the Priest, Eli, mistook her for a drunk and talked to her disrespectfully. Nonetheless, she did not get angry, instead, she explained her situation to him nicely, and in return, he prophesied that God would grant her petition.

Before long, Hannah became pregnant and in the process of time gave birth to Samuel, who later became a top prophet in Israel. The bible says the Lord visited Hannah again so that she conceived, and bore three sons and two daughters (1 Samuel 2:21). That is, He met and surpassed her expectation!

The lame man (Acts 3), only wanted alms from Peter and John, but, got healing instead. That is, God surpassed his expectation too. He also surpassed the expectation of Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1-10), who left his house for the purpose of seeing who Jesus was, only for Jesus to stay at his house, and take salvation to his household at the end of the day.

God is still in the business of meeting and surpassing people’s expectations to date. For example, He met and surpassed mine at a point in time. What happened was that I got a good job in a town in Nigeria that is notorious for its serious accommodation problem. Before I resumed duty there, I asked God for just a room, which I was even prepared to share with people. But, He gave me a self-contained accommodation, free of charge instead, by using two men I had never met before.

Friends, this God is who I am offering you today, please embrace Him! He has the capacity to meet and surpass all your expectations (Ephesians 3:20). But, you must be prepared to adopt the following protocols, to begin with. You must ask God to meet your expectations for Him to answer you (Matthew 7:7). Then, you must have faith in Him that He would do so (Hebrews 11:6).

After that, you must take practical steps towards realizing your expectations (James 2:14-17). For instance, you must train your children so that they can do well (Proverbs 22:6). You must look for a job so that you can earn a living (Genesis 2:15). You must work out your salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12) and do everything to the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31). Lastly, you must wait on the Lord until He answers you (Lamentations 3:25-26).

Friends, if you observe these protocols, I believe you will see God meeting your expectations and surpassing them very soon, and you will see yourself rising without limit, in Jesus name. Amen.

Before Jesus Christ left the world, He said it is to the advantage of His disciples that He should go away, for Him to send the Holy Spirit, the Helper, to them (John 16:7). He knew they couldn’t do well without Him (i.e., the Holy Spirit)!
In the same vein, my earliest Pastor, a man we respect very much, knew we cannot do well without the Holy Spirit too. So, he made sure we got baptized in Him quickly. It is not surprising, therefore, that many members of our church later went out boldly, to witness for Jesus everywhere, and still did well for themselves.
In my own case, as a young man, I regarded the Holy Spirit as a myth, Who doesn’t deserve my time. But, I changed my opinion after I embraced Him because He filled me with great power to witness for Jesus Christ; an activity I found ridiculous earlier.
Specifically, he filled me with the power to witness to people in drama, singing and dancing, in addition to creative designs, preaching, and teaching, etc. By the way, these were activities I felt too indifferent and probably too ‘classy’ to bother myself with, before then.
One day, I asked Him to help me sharpen my writing skill, so that I could use it to honour God and promote Christianity better, and He answered me! Now, I can point to standard books, and several sound Christian articles I wrote under His inspiration, which are being read and used, all over the world. I give Him praise!
Friends, you too can do well like others out there, if you embrace the Holy Spirit today, for He will help you, teach you, and remind you all things (John 14:26). He will also guide you into all truth and tell you things to come (John 16:13). Moreover, He will help you speak in tongue (Acts 2:4) so that you can communicate directly with God (1 Corinthians 14:2).
What’s more, He will give you strength (Romans 8:26), and you will cease to live your life ordinarily (Romans 8:9 (GNT)). Then, people will notice you (Matthew 7:16) and follow you to give their lives to Jesus Christ. Not only that, God will reward you lavishly in the end (Matthew 25:21).
But you must be born-again first if you haven’t hitherto. That is, you must give your life to Jesus Christ to receive the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13). Most Pastors will be willing to help you out with this important activity! And once you have Him on board your life, you will be filled with power to witness for Jesus everywhere (Acts 1:8), and still do well for yourself, in Jesus name. Amen.

Recently, I remembered one of my friends who had an issue to settle in a Nigerian government establishment some years ago.  He needed an insider to help him out. He soon found one, his uncle, who once lived in their house and benefited from his parent’s kindness.

With confidence, he approached his uncle, narrated his story, and asked him for help. But to his utmost surprise, the man said no, and eased my friend out of his office with much arrogance, impatience, and unkindness. He was so disappointed in his uncle! But he quickly forgot the ensuing disappointment, forgave him (Colossians 3:13), and turned to God for help.

Before long, he ran into one of his classmates working in the same establishment as his uncle. One thing led to another, he narrated his plight to her, and she got a more senior officer than his uncle, to help him. This person also helped others, at the instance of my friend, in later years.

Looking back now, I believe my friend’s uncle didn’t help him, not because he is a wicked man, but because God stopped him so that my friend could turn to Him for far-reaching help. Please remember He is God, and He does what He likes (Psalm 135:6).

Friends, God is aware of your current situation (Psalm 139:1-2), and He won’t allow it to overwhelm you (1 Corinthians 10:13). But, like my friend, you need to forget the disappointment arising from it, forgive those you need to forgive, and turn to God for far-reaching help (Isaiah 43:18-19).

So, you need to forget the disappointment arising from someone not helping you; forgive him or her and turn to God for help, and He will help you (Isaiah 41:10). You also need to forget the disappointment arising from your boss not promoting you without cause; forgive him or her and turn to God for help; He’ll promote you at the right time (Psalm 75:6-7).

Are you disappointed that you lost money from a failed business deal? If you are, please forgive as appropriate, turn to God for help, and He’ll restore your losses back to you (Joel 2:25-26). Moreover, you need to forget the disappointment arising from your child behaving badly, turn to God for help, and He’ll save him or her (Isaiah 49:25).

Please, put away EVERY disappointment in your life today; forgive as appropriate, and turn to God for help through Jesus Christ. Ask for anything in His name, and He’ll do it (John 14:13-14).

Finally, if you are disappointed that you bungled every attempt to help you become born again, i.e., you are not yet saved, please forgive yourself, and confess the Lordship of Jesus Christ with your mouth; believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you’ll be saved (Romans 10:9), in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Like many foreigners, I had some difficulties when I newly arrived in the UK. Among them was the harsh wintry weather condition I had to contend with. I also had difficulties with the foods available; they were completely alien to me.

Besides, I found it difficult to communicate with many people; I didn’t understand them, and they didn’t understand me too. This difficulty also prevented me from responding correctly to directions given on my Satnav (Satellite Navigation System) when I started to drive. As a result, I missed my way and got lost several times.

One day, I got lost for over an hour, and I found myself in different towns and villages, on farms, highways, hardly used roads, private properties, dead ends, etc., that I never bargained for. But my Satnav amended my way each time, and returned me to the right path, till I arrived at my destination.

Later that day, I reflected on my earlier ordeal, and I was thrilled by the fact that my Satnav did not complain, or tell me off, because of my several mistakes, at any time. It didn’t abandon me to my fate as well! Instead, it amended my way faithfully and directed me back to the right path, the whole time.

To a large extent, God operates like the Satnav! He doesn’t complain, tell us off, or abandon us to our fate, because of our mistakes. Instead, he corrects us with love (Proverbs 3:12 (NLT)), amends our ways (Isaiah 45:2), and directs us towards the destination He planned for us beforehand (Psalm 32:8).

Therefore, friends, if you think you have failed as a parent, because of your past mistakes, please don’t worry; God will amend your way, support you, and save your children (Isaiah 49:25). And if your health has degenerated, as a result, know that He won’t tell you off; alternatively, He will amend your way, and heal you (Jeremiah 30:17).

Maybe your business or ministry has collapsed, just relax; God will amend your way, and make it prosper again, for that is His wish for you (3 John 2). Perhaps the love of your life has abandoned you, don’t worry; He will amend your way and give you a good person that will love, and marry you (Psalm 84:11).

Friends, no matter how serious your past mistakes are, and what your present situation is, please pray to God about it today; He will listen to you (Jeremiah 29:12), amend your way, and give you a new direction that will lead you to a pleasant destination, and thrust you forward, upward, faster, and better.

Finally, if you are not born again, i.e., Jesus Christ is not yet your Lord and Saviour, or in a few words, you are not yet saved, please pray to God to sort you out immediately, so that you can see Heaven, His Kingdom, at the end of the day (John 3:3). Guess what? He will answer you, amend your way, and save you by the name of Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12). Amen.

Many students in the Nigerian Universities of our time were hard up!  They could not easily feed well, wear good clothes, buy prescribed text books/stationery, etc., and they slept anywhere they found each night. Sadly, the Nigerian government did not come to their aid!

I was to some extent, one of the students described above, not necessarily because our parents were poor, but because they had numerous people to cater for with their limited and over-stretched wages.  As a result, they never had enough to satisfy our needs.  Still, we were very happy to share our home, and the little we had, with those we met.

As part of my coping strategy, therefore, I teamed up with one of my friends, and we became impromptu designers of clothes and shoes, for our exclusive use, and to boost our appearance and social status, at least a bit.  Most times, we used flashy but cheap materials to make our products, and we dared not wear some of them in the rain because they would shrink, and get damaged instantly.

With time, we became fairly visible in and out of our campus, and we made friends with many helpful people along the way.  We attended a lot of social functions and studied very hard as well.  And on many occasions, people commended us for looking trendy, smart, and clean. Some boys even begged us for stuff; they probably thought we were well-off!

While several people applauded us for who we had become, some detested us for the same reason.  And at one point, one boy accused me of “showing off my family wealth”; I wonder where that came from. Another threatened to harm me because, to him, I was “too classy, too cheerful, and too loved by people” for his liking. Meanwhile, he is from a rich family, far more comfortable than I was.

One day, I sat down in my room and appraised the level of hatred, hostility, envy, and threats, hurled at us.  In the end, I encouraged myself with the fact that it is the Lord who made us stand out from the crowd, to begin with, so, it would be impossible for anyone to harm us successfully (Romans 8:31, Isaiah 54:17a).  I can boldly confirm here that those who detested us then, are our good friends today. Hallelujah!

Friend, God made us stand out from the crowd after he enabled us to tackle our lack in some way.  He will do the same for you also if you approach Him; your present situation notwithstanding.  He will surprise you, and make a way for you where there seems to be none (Isaiah 43:19).

He will supply all your needs (Philippians 4:19), bless the work of your hands (Deuteronomy 28:12), and restore back to you, all you lost in the past (Joel 2:25-26).  Besides, He will heal you (Jeremiah 33:6), defend you (Psalm 91:11), and make your enemies become your friends (Proverbs 16:7).

And after He had finished fixing you, you will become refined like silver and gold (Zechariah 13:9).  People shall call you blessed (Malachi 3:12), and His name shall be glorified in your life, in Jesus’ name.  Amen.

The bible says, “It shall come to pass in that day that his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck, and the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil” (Isaiah 10:27).

The passage above is very popular among Christians. It gives us the feeling of probable freedom from grave situations. It gives us rest of mind, and great joy as well. But for us to appreciate it well, I suggest we should look closely around the word ‘yoke’ in it first.

A yoke is a bar of wood crafted to unite two animals, so that they can work together in the fields to draw loads, pull farm tools, fetch water, and carry out other heavy tasks. Yoked animals are usually very strong, big, and diligent. Some of them include oxen, horses, mules, donkeys, and water buffalo.

The quality and quantity of a yoked animal’s output, depends solely on the level of co-operation he receives from his counterpart. Usually, yoked animals work ceaselessly until they become old and wrinkled, weak and useless. In that case, they are promptly replaced with young vibrant animals; no one misses or cares about them thereafter. Thank goodness, some organizations buy them off these days, so that they can enjoy early retirement, and live decently afterwards.

Figuratively speaking, people can also be yoked, if their lives depend solely on the whims and caprices of others. Usually, people who are yoked doesn’t have a say in matters that concerns them, and they are persistently burdened, frustrated, and limited by the consequences of their situations, which might include sin, unhappiness, sickness, barrenness, weakness, dashed hopes, poverty, insecurity, anxiety, and guilt among others, until a higher force delivers them.

Friend, does the scenario above describe you in any way? If you are, then you may be yoked to someone or something presently. Are you burdened, frustrated, and limited by the consequences of your condition, and do you honestly desire to be delivered from them? If you do, then you need to pray to God, who has the overriding power, and can use any thing (plus anointing oil) to deliver you (Isaiah 14:24-25).

He will answer you (Psalm 91:15)! He will destroy the sicknesses that your yoke imposed on you, and give you sound health instead (Jeremiah 33:6). He will remove weakness from you too, and give you strength to carry out great exploits (Daniel 11:32b). And if you are barren, God will give you a home like a joyful mother of children (Psalm 113:9).

Besides, He will abolish poverty all around you, and help you to prosper (3 John 2). Are you neck deep in debt? If you are, God will soon sort you out; you will then become self-sufficient, and lend to others (Deuteronomy 28:12). Are you perpetually in sin? If you are, God will forgive you, but you must be ready to confess your sin first (1 John 1:9). And if your name (reputation) is in tatters at the moment, He will give you a new one (Isaiah 62:2).

Friend, the source(s) and consequences of your yoke are no more important, since God is prepared to destroy them (Isaiah 10:27), through Jesus Christ (John 14:6). This same Jesus is now asking you to come to Him so that you can have rest (Matthew 11:28). Please answer Him quickly, don’t dilly-dally!

In Matthew 11:28, Jesus says “Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Above passage is quite comforting to everyone who is struggling with one problem or another at present.  And for us to appreciate it properly, I suggest we first pay attention to the statement ‘Come to Me’ in it closely.

“Come to Me” can be taken for this write-up, as an invitation “to advance toward a person”; the person being able to improve the lot of the invitee.  However, some people use the statement deceitfully, such that the invitee become worse off at the end of the day.  Such people should never be trusted, and they should be ignored!

But Jesus Christ is quite different, because He doesn’t use the statement “Come to me” deceitfully.  He means well each time He uses it, because of His love for us (John 15:9).  For that reason, He should be trusted, and he should never be ignored!

Today, this same Jesus is saying “Come to me”, and “I will give you rest” from all your troubles.  So, if you are ill, He will give you rest from your illness, He will heal you”.  Remember He is specially anointed for that purpose (Acts 10:38). And if you are facing lack in any area of your life, He will prosper you. That is His wish for you anyway (3 John 2).

Are your children troubling you lately? If they are, Jesus will save them (Isaiah 49:25). And if your enemies are disturbing you, He will make them to be at peace with you (Proverbs 16:7). Perhaps someone is holding back your promotion, He will get it for you, after all, promotion comes from God, His Father, and no-one else (Psalm 75:6-7 KJV).

If you are childless, Jesus will give you children. Please recall that children are gifts from God (Psalm 127:3 NLT). Maybe it’s hard for you to secure a life partner up till now, He will sort you out someday, because He believes you should not be on your own forever (Genesis 2:18). Etc.

Friend, please note here that you can also heed the “Come to me” call of Jesus Christ even though you are not laboured and heavy laden. The fact is, you are acceptable to Him just as you are (Acts 10:34-35). Please, answer Him promptly!

Finally, if you want eternal life, Jesus is saying “Come to me” (John 3:16)! But, you must be born again first, otherwise, you cannot enter the kingdom of God (John 3:3) to enjoy it.

Are you born again? If you are, well done!  But if you are not, please confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). That is, you will become born again! It is after this has been settled that you can attain eternal life in the kingdom of God. May you not miss it, in Jesus name. Amen.
